💻 Brokerage & Platforms
BROKERAGE & PLATFORMS
----- 🏦 BROKERAGE & PLATFORMS -----
A lot of new traders get stuck in this phase in the beginning, but inshaAllah this list will make it easier to choose your platform.
Please note: you don’t need the “perfect” platform — you just need something that lets you execute cleanly, fits your level, and doesn't overcomplicate things. You also need a platform that aligns with your trading hours.
Market Hours (Important)
These are the standard U.S. market hours:
Premarket: 4:00 AM – 9:30 AM EST
Regular Market: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM EST
After Hours: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM EST
👉 Not every broker supports full premarket/after-hours trading
Also, charting and execution are NOT the same thing:
Charting → where you analyze (TradingView)
Broker → where you execute
Some brokers connect to TradingView, some don’t.
📊 WHAT WE USE
👉 Charting: TradingView
👉 Execution: depends on your broker
If possible, I recommend using a broker that connects to TradingView — it makes things much simpler.
When You Open Any Account
Choose CASH ACCOUNT, not margin. Many brokers default to margin signup if you don't explicitly opt out.
Margin involves borrowing money with interest (riba), which is not halal.
If you accidentally enabled margin, most brokers let you switch to cash in your account settings. If you can't switch, contact support.
1️⃣ INTERACTIVE BROKERS (IBKR)
Good if you want: a serious, long-term setup
Strong execution
Low commissions (depends on plan — fixed vs tiered pricing)
Access to global markets
Downside:
Not beginner-friendly (desktop app, if using TradingView will not be an issue)
Platform can feel overwhelming at first
Cash account: ✅ Yes
TradingView: ✅ Yes
👉 This is one of the best long-term platforms if you stick with trading.
.
2️⃣ WEBULL
Good if you want something simple
$0 commissions on stocks
Easy to use
Clean interface
Has paper trading
Downside:
Not the best execution
Limited control compared to IBKR
Cash account: ✅ Yes
TradingView: ✅ Yes
👉 This is one of the easiest places to start.
3️⃣ TRADESTATION
Good if you want: a step up from beginner platforms
$0 stock trading
Stronger tools than Webull / Robinhood
Good for strategy-based traders
Downside:
Slight learning curve
Cash account: ✅ Yes
TradingView: ✅ Yes
👉 Good middle ground between simple and advanced.
4️⃣ TRADEZERO
Good if you want: small cap trading + risk control
Built for active traders
Works well with TradingView
Extended hours access
Big feature:
👉 Max Loss / Daily Loss Limit
You can set a daily loss cap so your account stops trading once you hit it
(Not perfect, but very helpful for discipline)
Downside:
Slightly more niche platform
Cash account: ✅ Yes
TradingView: ✅ Yes
👉 Very useful if you’re trading small caps and want that extra risk control.
5️⃣ CHARLES SCHWAB (thinkorswim)
Good if you want: everything in one place (charts + trading)
$0 commissions on stocks & ETFs
Very strong built-in charting
Includes scanners, studies, paper trading
Widely used by active retail traders
Execution note:
For most people, execution is completely fine
It’s just not built around advanced order routing
Downside:
Does NOT connect to TradingView
Cash account: ✅ Yes
👉 This is a solid all-in-one platform if you don’t want separate charting.
6️⃣ FIDELITY
Good if you want: a trusted, beginner-friendly all-in-one platform
$0 commissions on stocks and ETFs
No account minimums
Strong research and educational tools
Active Trader Pro for more advanced users
Good customer service
Downside:
Does NOT connect to TradingView
Active Trader Pro can feel dated compared to newer platforms
Cash account: ✅ Yes
👉 Solid choice for beginners who want a reputable broker and don't mind charting separately.
7️⃣ ROBINHOOD
Good if you want: the absolute simplest setup
$0 commissions
Very easy to use
Charting note:
Mobile app has limited charting
There is now a desktop version with improved charts, but still more basic compared to other platforms
Downside:
Limited tools overall
No TradingView connection
Cash account: ✅ Yes
👉 Fine to start, but most people outgrow it.
Level 2 (Order Book)
Level 2 shows the active buy and sell orders sitting at different price levels — who wants to buy where, and who wants to sell where.
Most brokers show a basic version. Active trader platforms like DAS or TradeZero give you a deeper view.
👉 You do NOT need Level 2 to start trading. As you progress, some small cap traders use it to read short-term order flow on fast movers, but it's optional.
📊 CHARTING PLATFORMS (QUICK CONTEXT)
Most people only need one charting platform.
We use TradingView because it’s the easiest to learn and very powerful.
📈 TRADINGVIEW (what we use)
Clean charts
Easy to understand
Works on phone + desktop
Tons of indicators and tools
Can connect to some brokers
👉 This is more than enough for almost everyone starting out.
⚡ DAS (for context)
Has charts, but it is mainly used for execution (orders, hotkeys, Level 2)
👉 You can chart on DAS, but most people don’t rely on it for analysis
🧠 OTHER CHARTING PLATFORMS (just so you’re aware)
You might hear these mentioned:
TrendSpider → more automated charting / pattern recognition
StockCharts / Finviz / Yahoo Finance → simpler charting tools and scanners
👉 These are all valid — just not necessary for what we’re doing.
For International Traders
If you are outside the U.S., your broker options may be more limited — but you still have good choices.
Best overall option:
Interactive Brokers (IBKR)
- Available in most countries
- Access to U.S. markets
- Strong execution
- Works with TradingView
This is usually the best long-term choice for international traders.
Regional Alternatives
Depending on where you live, some local brokers may also work:
🇪🇺 Europe → Saxo Bank, DEGIRO (no TradingView integration, but real US market access)
🇬🇧 UK → Trading 212, Saxo (cash accounts supported)
🇨🇦 Canada → Questrade, IBKR
🇦🇺 Australia → Stake, IBKR, MOOMOO
🌏 Asia (select countries) → MOOMOO, Webull
Check your local broker supports:
✅ Cash account (no margin)
✅ Real US stock trading (not CFDs — CFDs are not halal)
✅ Premarket / after-hours access if you want to trade those sessions
⚠️ Things to be aware of:
- You may need to fill out tax forms (like W-8BEN)
- Funding may take longer depending on your country
- Some brokers (like Webull or Robinhood) may not be available
